Frequently Asked Questions

^

Do you have mileage restrictions?

Yes. You can cover a maximum of 42000 miles per year with us. This is equivalent to approximately 806 per week. However if you use less than this in a week, this can be carried over to the next.

^

How long is your contract?

Our contracts are rolling contracts, and our minimum rental period is 6 weeks. We require our drivers give us 2 weeks notice before they return their vehicle. This notice can be given any time after 4 weeks of rent; simply contact the office via mobile or email.

^

Do you take a deposit?

Yes. All vehicles are subject to a £500 refundable deposit unless stated otherwise. In order to make this sum easier to pay, we allow our drivers to pay half of this upfront, and the other half can be split over a period of 5 weeks.

^

I've reserved a vehicle online. When can I pick it up?

Please be aware that completion of our reservation form does not guarantee a vehicle has been reserved. All reservations are subject to availability. Once you’ve completed the online form, we will be in contact to arrange a collection date so long as your selected vehicle is available. If your preferred vehicle is not available, we will contact you to let you know.

^

Where are you based?

We are based in London. Our head office address is 7th Floor, Hyde House, The Hyde, London, NW9 6LH.

^

I already have a vehicle with you. Why is my rate different to what I see on your website?

When you hire a vehicle with us, you are contractually agreeing to pay the fixed rate agreed at the start of the contract, for the entire length of your hire. As is the case with many other rental and subscription services, prices can change over time in response to market conditions, availability, and other factors. As a result, customers may enter into agreements at different times and end up paying different rates. Whilst we periodically review our pricing for new customers, we are not contractually required to notify existing customers of these changes, nor are they automatically applied to existing customers. If you would like to discuss this with us, please give us a call on 0203 174 1114, or email info@pcorent.com.

^

What do you need from me before I rent a car?

We will need your PHV licence, PHV certificate, the front and back of your driver’s licence, your National Insurance number, and proof of address (utility bill or bank statement).

^

I need a car for a few days, can I rent one from you?

We get quite a few calls from around the country requesting short-term rentals. Please be aware that we only offer PCO vehicles. This means ‘public carriage office’, meaning if you do not hold a PCO/PHV licence, you will be unable to rent a vehicle from us.

^

I have my own insurance; can I rent a car from you and use this rather than your own?

Unfortunately, this is not possible. All vehicles provided by PCO Rentals must also be on our own insurance policy.

^

Can I collect the vehicle on the same day that I booked it?

Unfortunately, this is not possible. We will need approximately 24 hours to get you on our insurance platform, meaning the soonest you will be able to collect a vehicle after booking it, is the following working day.

^

What happens with PCNs?

As a driver, you are responsible for any PCN or traffic contravention that occurs whilst you are in possession of the vehicle. All PCNs we receive are sent back to the issuer along with the details of the vehicle’s hirer. The issuer will then transfer the liability of the PCN over to the hirer, rewriting the PCN and sending a new copy to the hirer’s home address. We charge a £24 admin fee for this process.

Once the PCN is in your name, you are able to challenge it. If the issuer accepts your challenge and cancels the PCN, take a picture of the cancellation letter and share it with us and we’ll refund the £24 admin fee.

^

Can I take the vehicle abroad?

There is no scenario where we allow our vehicles to be taken abroad. You must not take our vehicle abroad under any circumstance.

^

When will my deposit be refunded?

After returning the vehicle, provided there is no outstanding debt on your account or damage to the vehicle, your deposit will be refunded after 10 working days. This is to ensure there are no outstanding PCNs attributed to you.

^

Can I loan my vehicle to a friend/family member?

You must not loan the vehicle to any friends or family members as they are not insured to drive the vehicle. Only the hirer has permission to drive our vehicle.

^

How do I return my vehicle?

You are required to give us 2 weeks notice before returning your vehicle. This can be given via mobile, or email. We will then confirm your return date, and will expect the vehicle returned on the specified date. If you change your mind and want to keep the vehicle for a longer period, please do let us know and we will cancel/move your return date.

^

I have points on my licence, is this a problem?

This depends on the amount of points you have, as well as the contravention codes. Typically, if you have 6 or more points, we will have to refer you to our insurers to confirm if they are able to provide cover. This typically takes 24 hours and will require sharing the front and back of your driver’s licence, your PCO badge, and your national insurance number with us. Once our insurers come back with an answer, we’ll be in touch.

^

Do you have a minimum or maximum age?

Yes. All drivers must be at least 23 years old, but no older than 70 years old. If you fall outside of these parameters, we’ll have to refer you to our insurers to confirm they are able to provide cover. We’ll need the front and back of your driver’s licence, your PCO badge, and your national insurance number. Once our insurers come back with an answer, we’ll be in touch.

^

What happens if I miss a payment?

Payments are taken automatically from your account via direct debit. Payments are taken weekly on the same day that you collect the vehicle.

At PCO Rentals, we have a zero tolerance approach to missed payments. Late payments will be subject to a late payment fee at the discretion of the company. If you have missed two weeks of payments, the vehicle will be recalled or recovered, and the cost of recovery will be placed on your account.

^

What happens if I damage the vehicle?

You are liable for the condition of the vehicle whilst it is under your hire. This is including damage sustained to the vehicle even if you were not present. We will secure a quote from one of our garages, and the cost of repair will be down to yourself.

If your hire agreement also includes the insurance excess waiver, you will not be held liable for any damage sustained to the car. Please note however that the waiver does not cover punctures, a stolen charge cable, hire of a secondary vehicle, nor any costs/cases deemed to be fraudulent. If your account is in arrears, the waiver is null and void.

^

I have a puncture. What do I do?

We do not cover punctures. If you sustain a puncture in our vehicle, the cost of rectifying this will be down to you. If the puncture is repairable, we advise you do this. Otherwise, you may need to purchase a replacement tyre. Whilst we will not cover this cost, we can assist in a location. Give us a call if you are unsure of where to go in this scenario.

^

I had an accident/my vehicle is damaged. Am I entitled to a replacement vehicle?

In the event that your vehicle requires repairs, a replacement vehicle is strictly subject to availability. If you are required to leave your vehicle at one of our garages, we have 24 hours to resolve any issue before credit is applied to your account.

^

Can I purchase additional mileage?

Yes. Additional mileage can be purchased at 0.10p per mile if purchased in advance. If you return your vehicle over your mileage allowance, you will be charged 0.18p per mile. Extra mileage purchased in advance is non-refundable.

^

Do you offer rent-to-buy contracts?

We are currently not offering rent-to-buy contracts. This was once offered by us, and existing contracts will continue to be honoured, however there are no plans to reimplement this contract. This of course may change in the future, so watch this space.

^

What do I do if I require roadside assistance?

Our vehicles are covered by the RAC. In the event that you require roadside assistance, their contact number is 0333 202 3000. Please note that we do not allow the RAC to replace parts in our vehicles; we only allow them to get the vehicle started. If the vehicle does not start, you must request the RAC recover the vehicle to one of our garage partners (listed below), who will then fit a new battery.

If you contact the RAC for a puncture, you will be held responsible for the cost of call-out and tyre.

The RAC DOES NOT cover recovery in the case of an accident. If you require recovery after an accident, you must arrange the recovery at your own cost. If this is deemed a non-fault accident by our insurers, this cost will be refunded to you in full.

Whilst we will of course cover the cost if there is a genuine issue with the vehicle, we will not cover any cost that is deemed to be driver-induced. For example, if the RAC deem that your electric vehicle does not start due to the driver failing to charge the battery, the cost of this callout will be placed on the driver.

^

How do I know when I need an MOT/service?

You will be notified by your ride-sharing app when your vehicle is due an MOT. Whilst we cover MOTs, it is your responsibility to ensure it is done on time.

We also cover servicing. We service our hybrids every 10,000 miles and our EVs every 15,500 miles. It is your responsibility to let us know when you need a service. Simply contact the office, and we will arrange one for you.

We also cover PHV licence renewals. These are due once a year and you will be notified two weeks before your PCO is due. All appointments are booked prior to the start of the year and the dates are non-negotiable. There is a £100 fine for missed PHV appointments.

I don't live in London. Can I still rent a vehicle?

You are eligible to rent a vehicle from us so long as you have a TfL private hire licence and meet our eligible criteria.

^

How does the congestion charge work?

  • All of our vehicles are congestion chargeable.
  • All vehicles are registered to TfL’s congestion charge autopay.
  • All drivers renting a vehicle eligible for CC must pay £180 into their congestion pot when collecting the vehicle.
  • Every month, we will monitor the amount of times the vehicle has entered the zone.
  • If you enter the zone, the total is removed from your congestion pot. We will then invoice the driver the difference in order to top this pot back up.
  • Once the last bill from TfL is received, the congestion pot is refunded to the driver within 14 days.
  • If you would prefer to put the vehicle on your own autopay account, this can be arranged.

^

How do I redeem my accrued holiday?

You are entitled to 1 week free for every 12 consecutive weeks you’ve rented with us so long as your account is not in arrears and you have not had any late payments.

To redeem this offer, simply email your request to accounts@pcorent.com.

^

Are the vehicles fitted with a dash cam?

Our vehicles are not fitted with dash cams. However, we do offer a dash cam incentive. We will put £50 towards your purchase of a dash cam. Simply make a purchase, take a picture of the camera fitted in your vehicle, as well as the receipt, then send this over to accounts@pcorent.com with your vehicle information. This camera is then of course your own to keep once you return your vehicle.
